About us

We are both History teachers working currently together at Sawston Village College in Cambridgeshire. We are passionate about history teaching and pedagogy and are using this blog to share some of our ideas.

Sarah Jackson-Buckley – I am Head of History at Sawston Village College and Anglian Learning Subject Community Leader (History). I have been teacher for 10 years and am in my 6th year as Head of Department. I completed my PGCE in York after completing my undergraduate degree at the University of Cambridge. Last year, I developed my passion for local history schemes of work by completing the HA Fellowship in Local History. I am also co-chairing a group for the Anglian Learning Trust focussed on how we can diversify and decolonise the curriculum across a range of subjects.

Jessie Phillips – Having completed my PGCE at Cambridge, I am currently an second year ECT at Sawston. I am particularly interested in medieval history and previously completed an MA in Medieval Studies at Leeds University. In the classroom, I am interested in cultural history, the value of language to support disciplinary thinking, and pupils’ prior perceptions of the past. This academic year I am completing the UCL MA in History Education.
